Basic Information

Spirit Vessels are individuals who are granted incredible power beyond to that of an ordinary mortal. This power is given to them by Agents of the Gods. Agents of the Gods have the ability to share or completely give away their power (or the power of the God that they serve) to a mortal of any race of Agarest, thus turning them into a Spirit Vessel. However, such power does not come without a price to pay. Those who become Spirit Vessels are bound by a contract of the soul to fulfill whatever duty is given to them by the Agent. In Agarest 1, Leonhardt and his descendants were tasked by Dyshana to banish the forces of darkness from the 5 continents and to allow themselves to be sealed within the continental pillars to reinforce the seals on the Gods of Darkness. In Agarest Zero, after receiving Mimel's Power of Liberation, Sieghart was forced to take her place and sacrifice himself in order to break Hass Calinou's seal. In Agarest 2, Eva had Weiss and his descendants become Spirit Vessels in order to collect and contain Chaos's power so that he could be revived. However, according to Eva, if a human is made into a Spirit Vessel, their remaining time to live is much shorter compared to any other race because their body cannot handle such immense power for too long. A noteable side effect for turning a mortal into a Spirit Vessel is that over time, the Agent and the Spirit Vessel will begin to develop an unspoken communication and understanding, allowing them to do things such as read each others emotions and thoughts (e.g. Rex and Dyshana or Grey and Eva) or find one another when separated due to sensing each other's presence (e.g. Sieghart and Mimel or Leonis and Mimel).

As far as the actual abilities of a Spirit Vessel are concerned, they are capable of numerous things that the other mortals race can't do. Besides having enhanced fighting capabilities, they can reforge or break seals made by the Gods, contain the wayward powers of an God if they ever died and revive them at the cost of they of their own bodies. Also, Spirit Vessels seem the possess the ability to automaticaly find the Maidens of the Pillar. As explained by both Dyshana and Eva, the Spirit Vessels and the Maidens of the Pillar are naturally drawn to each other. These Maidens play an important role in the missions of the Spirit Vessels, as they enhance their power and can act as containers for it when they are sealed away. Not only that, they are required by the Agent to bear the children of the Spirit Vessels to produce new Spirit Vessels that will continue on where the previous Spirit Vessels left off before they were sealed. Notably, the power of the Spirit Vessel becomes stronger with each new generation.

In Record of Agarest War Mariage, an variation of the Spirit Vessel known as the Brave of the Rainbow Sword appeared, along with it's own variations of the Maidens of the Pillar who are called the Maidens of the Princess God's Feather Mantle to battle the Demon God Eclipse.
